Common Field Get in touch
The studio

A small studio for the long view.

Common Field Media is a team of six in Brooklyn. We work with a handful of independent brands at a time — most of them for years — making the websites, content, and paid programs that compound.

Origin

Why we started this.

Common Field was founded in 2018 by two operators who'd spent a decade inside larger agencies and in-house growth teams — and who'd grown tired of work where senior people sold and junior people shipped.

We wanted to make a small studio where that's not possible. Where the senior person you meet is the senior person on your account. Where we take on a handful of clients, stay with them for years, and let the work compound.

Eight years later, the studio is still six people. Most of our clients have been with us since the first year. We've turned down more work than we've taken — and that's how it stays.

What we believe

Considered work over fast work.

Speed is not a moat. Good work, well briefed and patiently iterated, is.

Senior people on every project.

The person you pitch is the person who ships the work. No bait-and-switch from sales to delivery.

Small by choice.

We cap engagements per partner. Beyond that, attention compounds in the wrong direction.

Compound over campaign.

We measure success in client years, not quarterly retainers. The work that compounds is the work worth doing.

A short history

Eight years, in milestones.

We've never raised money, never had outside investors, and never been bigger than seven people. What follows is a brief record of the milestones we mark when we look back.

2018

The studio opens.

Common Field is founded by Alex Marsh and Jules Park, working out of a small studio in Greenpoint. Three clients in the first six months — all from previous in-house relationships.

2019

First senior hire.

Nora Hadid joins as senior designer. The studio reaches four engagements — the largest at this point being a full brand build for a publishing imprint.

2020

The studio goes distributed.

Closed the Greenpoint office. Adopted a fully distributed model with a small members-only studio space in Williamsburg for in-person work. Doubled engagement count to eight.

2022

Sam Okonkwo and Maya Chen join.

Senior content and senior paid hires deepen the practice. The studio reaches its current shape: two partners, four specialists. We adopt the eight-client cap formally.

2024

First client of five years.

A founder-led DTC brand crosses the five-year-partnership mark. We've now had clients with us long enough that "long-term" stops feeling like marketing copy.

2026

Year eight.

Theo Reyes joins as senior developer and SEO lead. We open the journal publicly for the first time after years of private notes. The roster sits at seven of eight; we'll take one new engagement in the second half.

In the press

Quietly, occasionally.

We don't pitch press, but we've been mentioned, interviewed, or had our work covered in a handful of places over the years.

We work from a small studio in Brooklyn. Most of our client work happens over video and shared docs, but we welcome partners to visit when projects warrant it — and our clients in New York often do.

Common Field engagements typically run six months to multiple years. We take on a small number of new clients each quarter — usually one or two — and we plan accordingly.
